The PSX, also known as the PlayStation X, is a digital video recorder (DVR) with an integrated PlayStation 2 console. Designed for the general market, it released by Sony on 13 December 2003. Due to the high cost of the system, there was a lack of consumer interest. About a year after it's release, it was discontinued. It was only released in Japan.

Features[]

The system was a video recorder and it came with a remote control. It also had S-Video, composite video and RF inputs. In addition, it could use VHF and CATV. Through USB, the system could link to a PlayStation Portable and transfer both music and videos.

The system had video editing, image editing and audio editing software as well as support for both PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software. Using a built-in broadband adapter, online games were supported. Although this model did not come with a controller included, a special white controller could be purchased separately. Memory Cards and both DualShock and DualShock 2 controllers were supported by the system.

It is also the first of Sony's platforms to use the XrossMediaBar (XMB) user interface that was later used for the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3.
